COMMUNITY COLUMN: Boom time for Open Arts exhibition

by Karen Johnson
South Holland District Council community development officer

This week our team has been busy preparing for South Holland Open Arts 2017.

The annual art exhibition and competition is one of our most popular events and so far this year has been no exception.

We have received an abundance of entries, the most for several years in fact, including paintings, photography, sculptures, textiles and digital art forms.

Once again the entries are all of an excellent standard so please come along have a look, the exhibition takes place at the South Holland Centre in Spalding between March 2 and 9.
Don’t forget you can nominate your favourite piece of work for the annual Public Vote Trophy.

Meanwhile, we are supporting a project aimed at setting up a Men’s Shed in South Holland.
The nationwide initiative aims to set up sheds where men can come along, learn a new skill, make new friends and generally do things at their own pace in a sociable environment.

We want to develop strong and supportive communities throughout South Holland and it would be great to see a shed set up in the district.
To find out more about the project visit their Facebook page – Men’s Shed South Holland.

This weekend will see the final ‘Bounce’ session taking place at The Curlew Centre in Sutton Bridge on Saturday from 10-11am and 1-2pm.
This high intensity, low impact and pain free way to exercise is actually great fun and we know that participants have really enjoyed themselves.

We’ve got some more exciting events coming up throughout the spring, so watch this space!
