Comedy show’s bare faced cheek

Make a date with the Calendar Girls at the South Holland Centre this week.

Concorde Theatricals are putting on their version of the hit comedy that’s based on the true story of Yorkshire Women’s Institute members who posed nude to raise funds for a leukaemia unit.
A spokesman for the South Holland Centre said: “When Annie’s husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room.
“They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence.
“The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales.
“The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.
“Calendar Girls is a humorous and inspiring dramatisation of the true story.”
Calendar Girls is at the Spalding Market Place venue at 7.30pm from today (Thursday) to Saturday June 7.
There’s also a matinee show at 2.30pm on Saturday.
Tickets are £12 or £10.50 for concessions and available from www.southhollandcentre.co.uk
