Last year the hanging flower baskets around the town centre were stunning and it was not surprising that Spalding achieved Gold status in the East Midlands in Bloom competition.
This year every effort will be made to maintain our Gold status and the Spalding in Bloom Committee is again asking local businesses to sponsor a hanging basket at their premises.
These will be installed at the end of May, in order that they are at their best for the judging in mid-July.
The hanging baskets are just one aspect of the competition and the judges will be looking at local allotments, the involvement of local schools in gardening, privately owned front gardens, public open spaces and historic gardens such as those at Ayscoughfee Hall.
The general cleanliness of the town, as well as the walks along the River Welland will also be scrutinised; so a large number of people and organisations need to be involved in preparing the town.
Therefore, as part of the preparations the committee has decided to hold a number of “Clean Up” days to which members of the public will be invited to attend to lend a hand.
The first of these is on Sunday, March 22.
The day will be divided into two sessions and participants may take part in either or both sessions:
Session One: 10.30am-12.30pm
Session Two: 2pm-4pm
The meeting point for each session is the Lincolnshire Poacher pub on Herring Lane.
The landlord, Dave Higgins has agreed a special price for tea and coffee, should you arrive early and a special rate for a roast lunch from 12.30pm.
If you wish to take advantage of this deal, please call Dave on 01775 766490 and quote the “Clean Up” offer.
The second “Clean Up” day is planned for Sunday, April 12.
