Aaron Clarke was involved in a sizeable crash at the final round of the National Superstock 600 Championship – but still managed to grab 23rd over the weekend.
Starting from an eighth row grid position at Brands Hatch, the Kirton rider got away to a good start and was running in 20th place on the first lap.
He slipped to 25th before the safety car was deployed after a multiple-bike crash.
From the re-start he maintained his position before a bike ahead blew its engine, which caused Clarke and a few other riders to crash on the slippery surface. He was unhurt but had to jump out of way pretty quickly as a bike hurtled towards him.
The race was immediately red flagged and a lengthy delay followed, before being cut to a six-lap affair.
Despite re-starting from the pit lane, he managed to finish a solid 23rd.
Clarke said: “Well, it’s safe to say that the last race of the year was eventful!
“Although I was starting from pit lane I managed to get up to 23rd from dead last, setting a new personal best time along the way.
“Thanks to everyone who supports me week in week out, all the team and also my awesome sponsors who get me out on track.
“It was not the way I wanted to end the season but at least we managed to get to the finish line in one piece after a very eventful few laps.”
