Easter will be a happier time for 50 children who would not normally receive a chocolate egg thanks to Spalding’s Sainsbury’s store.
The Holland Market supermarket has given 50 Easter eggs to our Donate A Dinner appeal which will go straight to Lincolnshire County Council’s Children’s Services department to be distributed to those children most in need.
The Spalding and South Holland Voice has teamed up with Coun Harry Drury to launch Donate A Dinner.
Coun Drury said: “I would like to thank Sainsbury’s Spalding for their generous donation of Easter eggs which will be passed on to LCC Children’s Services and distributed to children of families most in need throughout South Holland.”
The appeal, which comes of the back of the hugely successful Give A Gift campaign, aims to make sure that those children who would usually get a daily free school meal don’t go hungry.
Since we launched it last week, we have seen a great response with generous readers donating goods at the Sainsbury’s collection point while out picking up their essential items.
Coun Drury said: “I would like to say a massive thank you for all of the donations received so far for the Donate A Dinner appeal.
“All of the donations received will go to food banks and community groups who are distributing to the people throughout our district most in need.
“Some families are in receipt of vouchers, but inevitably, there are some who slip through the net due to recent changes in circumstance and as children are at home a lot, families are finding it hard to stretch food out.
“Please keep donating.”
We’d be delighted if you would like to get behind our appeal and are asking for donations of basic storecupboard essentials such as pasta, rice, tinned beans and soup, bread and packet sauces for those most in need.
Rachel Mayfield, editor of the Spalding and South Holland Voice, said: “As always our amazing readers have stepped up to help others in need across South Holland.
“The support we receive for our appeals is always astounding and it’s thanks to the generosity of the people of South Holland that we can help ensure no child goes hungry during the current coronavirus crisis.”
Once people have left their goods at the collection point Coun Drury will ensure they are distributed to those families most in need across South Holland.
Alex Bettison, of Sainsbury’s added: “We are delighted to be able to support the Donate A Dinner campaign especially at such a difficult and uncertain time for all of us but particularly those in greater need of support.
“I ask everyone to kindly donate anything they can afford to. No matter how small, everything helps.”
The appeal will run indefinitely while the coronavirus pandemic is ongoing.
Special thanks also go to Spalding’s Welland Print, who very kindly printed the appeal posters free of charge.
