Charity champion abandons plans for Holbeach Christmas parade

Holbeach fundraiser Les Ward has scrapped his plans to put on a Christmas market and parade in the town this year.

The 73-year-old blamed difficulties in getting approval for a road closure in High Street.

Mr Ward said: “I’m finished with it. I had people willing to help me but I just felt there was no way forward with the road closure and I really wanted it from a safety point of view.”

He had hoped to stage a similar event last year but his committee failed to lodge an event plan and road closure request in time.

Mr Ward will turn his attention to helping organise Holbeach Town and Country Fayre in the summer.

He will also continue with his fundraising events in aid of Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. Next bingo session is at the WI Hall on Saturday, February 18, (2pm) and a table top sale is at Holbeach Community Centre on Saturday, March 19, (11am).
