Charity the big winner at Spalding Golf Club presentation bash

Three immediate past captains were privileged to present two charity donations totalling £8,550 at Spalding Golf Club’s end of season presentation night.

The grand total was raised from a variety of raffles, a bridge drive, race night, a fashion workshop, special golf days and, of course, the three captains’ charity am/am golf day.

The total fund was divided three ways with two thirds (£5,700) donated to the Spalding Hospice Foundation. That was the nominated charity of both 2014 ladies’ captain Jenny Wilson and 2014 seniors’ skip John Patton (represented by 2015 seniors’ skipper Tony Holbrook).

The charity supports the Tulip Suite at the Johnson Community hospital, which offers the people of South Holland a dedicated palliative care unit in the heart of our community.

The Tulip Suite holds particular significance to Wilson, as it was there that husband Les was cared for so well in his final days.

Meanwhile, the remaining £2,850 was donated to the Callum Pite Smile charity, which was the nominated by 2014 club captain Peter Bridge.

Callum Pite lived in Pinchbeck, but died on New Year’s Day 2013 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 14, and from this tragedy, the charity was born. Their funds provide help to other young people undergoing treatment for cancer locally.
