Billiards leaders Donington pass tough Consti test

Table-toppers Donington passed a real test of their Spalding and District Billiards League title credentials by edging out Consti A 4-3 on Monday night.

Norman Gookey (R80) and Jim Thompson (R30) made breaks of 23 and 24 respectively to help secure the success for Donington – although Robert Adams’ (R40) hit back with a big win for Consti.

Fellow high-fliers Long Sutton were also on winning form as they knocked off hosts Consti D 5-2. A 58 break from Mick Cooper (O40) was the highlight for Sutton, while Adam Barwell (O10) was also on winning form.

Elsewhere, the all-Pyramid clash between the A and B side was a very tight affair. In the end it was Pyramid B who emerged as 4-3 winners, with Maurice Phillipson (R70) and Martin O’Connor (R10) sealing the frame wins.

Eric Wyer (R50) managed a 26 break for the beaten A side, as he lost 200-199 to O’Connor in a vintage frame.

Holbeach C picked up a 5-2 success over Consti B thanks to frame wins from Terry Shaw (R70) and Duncan Croker (R90), while Crowland B whitewashed Holbeach B in the most one-sided game of the week.

Roger Goodliffe (R110), Allan Sharman (R70) and Paul Holland (R70) grabbed their wins.

Holbeach A, meanwhile, lost 4-3 at Crowland A despite Hugh Pinner’s (O170) 49 break.
