Charity ball full of musical magic

The annual Two Lips ball took place on Saturday, and organisers expect the charity extravaganza raised more than £5,000 on the night.

The ball is the seventh of its kind organised by the Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland and took place at Springfields Exhibition Centre last Saturday.

More than 200 people attended this year’s event, which raised money for the Spalding Hospice Foundation and the Lighthouse Projects, which include Karis House for young women and the Agape food bank, as well as Rotary charities.

Rotary spokesman Peter Atkinson said he expects the final total raised at the weekend to top £5,000 – taking the total raised for charity over the past seven years to more than £30,000.

Musical entertainment on the night was provided by Motown-style tribute act The New Foundations and Alan Garner on the decks.

Mr Atkinson said: “As in previous years, the entertaining evening included heads and tails, a raffle, gift tree auction and free sweet trolley.

“The master of ceremonies for the evening was Christopher Prior and the auctioneer was Richard Start.

“Thanks go to Sarah Prior and her team for a very successful evening, with support from John Norman and his catering team.

“The main sponsors were David Spenceley Ltd and Mrs Jane Thacker in memory of her husband, Richard.”
