Chairman to step down after becoming ‘disillusioned’ amid council infighting

Holbeach Parish Council’s chairman Graham Rudkin is to step down from the position saying he’s become ‘disillusioned’.

But he says he will continue to be on the council which South Holland District Council recently stepped in to offer mediation to following a number of complaints, controversies and reports of infighting.

“I’ve just been getting disillusioned with everything.” he told The Voice. “With all that’s gone on, it does effect you mental health.

“You worry about the town and it’s got to the stage where issues are affecting me night and day.

“I’m also working with Holbeach In Bloom and I’ve not got the time to spend. I’ve had 6,000 plants delivered and there’s 6,000 more coming so I can’t donate any more time to the council.”

Coun Rudkin has been the chair for just under a year.

A spokesperson for Holbeach Parish Council, said: “All at Holbeach Parish Council thank Coun Graham Rudkin for his hard work and we look forward to continuing to work together.”

As previously reported, the council has been hit by infighting in the past year amid several issues including controversy over a mystery £27,000 payment made in December while the authority had to announce cuts to balance the books.

The council’s next meeting is due to be on Monday (April 12).
