Celebrate the river with yacht club

Fancy having fun on the river? Then the Celebrate the River Day will give you a chance to do just that!

Welland Yacht Club is hosting the event on Sunday, June 8, in association with Spalding Water Taxis and the Moorings pub.

The event will start from the yacht club in Cradge Bank, Spalding, and all participants can paddle down the river, by whatever means, to the Moorings, where refreshments await.

If you want to take part you will have to be on site at 9.30am to register and qualify for the bacon roll and tea on offer.

Participants will be able to launch and return to the club where ample parking and further refreshments are available. All participants must wear a life jacket or buoyancy aid.

Welland Yacht Club will also be running an open day from 12pm to 4pm where anyone can go along and try their hand at sailing under the watchful eye of RYA qualified instructors and experienced helms.

To avoid queues, organisers encourage anyone wanting to take part to book a slot on the Welland Yacht Club website.

There will be boats available for those that turn up without a booking but people may have to wait.

All you need to take along is a change of clothes and footwear as the club will provide lifejackets.

The Spalding branch of the RNLI will be in attendance offering information on the vital role they play on the water in the UK.

For those not wanting to get their feet wet there will also be a sailing simulator.

Information on the day and what the club is about can be found on the Welland YC website wellandyachtclub.co.uk/openday
