Six local groups have benefited from Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions scheme.
Crowland Town Bowling Club (£887.47), Gosberton & District Community Action Team (£672.03), Lincolnshire Parent Carer Forum (£1,179.56), Long Sutton Outreach (£3,232.72), Sutton Bridge Westmere Primary School (£1,185.48) and Whaplode Village Hall (£1,352.26) have each been awarded cash from the scheme. The money is a result of the scheme running between December last year and this March.
When members of Lincolnshire Co-op do their shopping between now and June 4 they’ll be raising funds for two leading health charities.
Rethink Mental Illness and Headway have been nominated as the Society’s Community Champions in outlets across Lincolnshire and the surrounding counties.
Every time members shop during this period they’ll be raising funds locally for these two charities to help people in Co-op’s trading area.
Rethink Mental Illness is the largest voluntary sector provider of mental health services and is a voice to people affected by severe mental illness.
Headway is a registered charity that provides advice and support to people affected by brain injury, their families and carers.
The Community Champions scheme sees every one of the Society’s 254,000 members linked to a good cause close to where they live. In the last three months members raised £85,263 for 81 local groups.
Helen Doyle, Locality Manager for Rethink Mental Illness, Lincolnshire, Durham, and East Riding said: “We are so pleased that Lincolnshire Co-op has chosen to support us and Headway through its Community Champions scheme.
“Mental illness is an issue which touches one in four of us in this country every year, and it’s great to see an organisation like Lincolnshire Co-op recognising the importance of this issue for its staff and customers.
“Every donation will help us provide information, advice, local support and services to people affected by mental illness, as well as to carers and family members.”
The money raised for Headway will go towards volunteers, support groups, befriending, information, social activities for members and education and training courses for brain injury survivors and their families.
Trustee of Headway Dr Gemma Elliott said: “Headway Lincolnshire are overjoyed to have been chosen by Lincolnshire Co-op to be a Health Community Champion.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the charity to raise much needed funds, and promote the valuable support which is offered to brain injury survivors and their carers across the area.”
