A group that brings together elderly people every week for activities is on the look out for financial support after having its funding cut.
The over 55s that use the Ever Young Club at the Umbrella Centre on Westlode Street every Friday were so desperate to keep the club going they offered to pay some of it themselves.
Following the decision to remove their funding they’ve paid £5 each time for the sessions which includes a two-course lunch and refreshments alongside the chance to catch up and meet new people.
They’ve even taken on their own fundraising including raising £365 through a recent jumble sale while Steph Stagles was among those that took part in a sponsored walk from Spalding to Springfields raising £85.
But charity SPOTS, which set up and runs the Ever Young Club, would like to hear from businesses who could sponsor the service and help safeguard it for the future.
Danielle Parkin, the chief organiser, said: “It was set up in March 2014 by those who could see there was a real need for somewhere for the older generation to socialise as many feel isolated once they retire.
“So each week we have something completely different, you name it we’ve probably done it.
“Exercise, crafts, talks, fashion shows, members showing us their skills, as well as trips out.
“We have always been funded by the people’s health trust but unfortunately at the moment our area is not open to apply for so we are looking for alternative sponsors.
“The group on average has a £230 outgoing each week, this covers our hall cost, food, staff and sessions so anything at the moment would be gratefully received.
“We wish for the group to keep running as it is as it has always been so successful and we have many members who see this as a little help service as not many of our members get out much.”
