Call to replace one way signage

There’s been calls to replace signage marking the one-way part of a Spalding town centre street which a council says it removed because it kept being damaged.

One member of the public who wished to remain anonymous said they’d nearly been hit by a car driving the wrong way up The Crescent recently.
It and the entirety of Vine Street are one way.
But there have been several incidents reported recently involving vehicles going the wrong way up the street including one that saw a car drive into the window of JF Inkley store.
The member of the public said: “It’s dangerous and someone is going to get killed.
“I’ve seen several vehicles going the wrong way and then having to take action, one nearly hit me.
“People aren’t seeing the signs.
“I believe that legally there should be a one-way sign either side of the road.”
Lincolnshire County Council however says there is no requirement for additional signs.
The authority also very recently repainted the ‘no entry’ wordage on the road itself.
A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said: “We consulted with our Signs and Lines team and they advised that there used to be an offside illuminated sign assembly but the assembly was being damaged regularly and so the Street Lighting Team removed it.”
