Hospitals in Lincolnshire are taking part in Baby Loss Awareness Week to support parents and families.
Volunteers have knitted or crocheted distinctive butterflies which are being used to remember a stillbirth, miscarriage or baby who died shortly after birth.
Everyone who visits a hospital this week, until Monday, October 15, will be encouraged to take a butterfly from the chapel and wear it with pride.
“We put out a call a while ago for people to crochet butterflies to commemorate baby loss and the response was overwhelming,” said Pamela Beattie, hospital chaplain.
Thousands of families in the UK are affected by the death of a baby and the week is supported by more than 60 charities to raise awareness of the issues.
The ‘overwhelming’ response to the appeal for butterflies saw many accompanied by very personal stories of baby loss.
The United Lincolnshire Hospital’s NHS Trust is also encouraging visitors to visit the hospital chapels.
