Brylaine to ‘step back’ from town bus service but pledge weekend service will return

A bus company says it is stepping back from running its Spalding services, but said journeys, including those on Saturdays, would continue.

Brylaine has run the likes of the Spalding Town IT1/IT2, the B13 Boston – Spalding and K59 Boston – Spalding services for the last two decades.

But the company’s managing director Marianne Garbbut said this week it was stepping back.

The company announced last December that, due to a lack of drivers, it would not be running Saturday services from January to March this year.

That was then extended to the end of July and Saturday services were taken on by Black Cat Travel Ltd.

Now a tender process for the running of the entire service has been completed this week. The resulting contract is due to now commence in September with current services continuing as they are until then.

“We have stepped back from operating it commercially after 20 years,” said Marianne.

“The tender includes a new timetable which has Saturday operations on it.

“Whether it’s Brylaine and or someone else, Spalding should shortly get its town service back on a weekend.”

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council, said: “The bidding process for the services based in Boston ended on Monday and submissions are currently being evaluated.

“The intended start date for these services is September 3 and they will start immediately after the current arrangements cease.”
