Bridging the generation gap

Sixth form students from Spalding Grammar School have been making new friends across the generation gap.

St John’s Care Home has been welcoming the young visitors as part of a scheme created to forge relationships between care homes and secondary schools.
As part of the Yopey charity, the Country Court Care group is taking part in the initiative to see young people contribute to their community.
“Over the months, the students have forged meaningful relationships with our residents, many of whom are living with dementia. We can see the students’ visits have a positive impact on people’s moods and overall well being,” said Natalie Parnham, manager at St John’s Care Home.
Yopey is a charity running face-to-face befriending partnerships.
“We know our residents benefit from being in such a supportive community here in Spalding where we can take advantage of initiatives such as Yopey dementia befriender community partnership,” said Natalie.
