Breaks help Pell to win but team fail to seize chance

Breaks of 38, 27 and 24 helped Marcus Pell (O40) to a win in the Spalding and District Billiards League but it wasn’t enough to give his team a win.

Gosberton B are still at the foot of the table after they lost 4-3 to league leaders Donington.
Pell, who beat Tony Scully (R40), was the only winner for Gosberton, with team mates Des Forbes (R40) and Shane White (O50) losing to Nigel Brasier (R70) and Ben Wrigglesworth (R20)respectively.
White got breaks of 27, 23 and 22, while Forbes claimed a 23.
Second-placed Consti A are now three points behind Donington, after losing 5-2 away to Holbeach B.
Chris Chamberlain (R40) and Neil Harvey (R50) were the winners for Holbeach, while Alan Hansard (R80) took the points for Consti.
Harvey got a 37 break in his frame.
Bourne SC, who are third in the standings, also went down, losing 4-3 at home to Pyramid B.
Maurice Phillipson (R70) took the first frame for Pyramid, before Bourne hit back thanks to Gary Surridge (R70). Darrell Read (R40) took the final frame and points for Pyramid. Breaks of 32 and 22 helped him on the way to victory.
Gosberton A are second from the bottom and lost again this week, this time 5-2 away to Pyramid A.
John Clapton (R100) and John Twell (R70) were the winners for Pyramid, beating Rob Lockett (R90) and Andy Shephard (R120) respectively, while Jamie Mumby (R90) took the points for Gosberton, beating Phil Cooke (R90) 200-121.
There were plenty of breaks in the match between Consti B and Holbeach A with billiards powerhouses Mick Johnson (O150) and Mick Cooper (O200) clashing.
Johnson, who had breaks of 32, 31, 22, 22, 21 and 20, emerged the victor, but Cooper put up a fight, knocking in a 30, 26, 25 and 21.
The match ended 5-2 to Consti B.
