Brake issues ensure Stafford’s super season ends on a low at Brands Hatch

Ben Stafford’s stellar season ended with a tinge of disappointment as he failed to finish either of the races at Brands Hatch over the weekend.

Saracen’s Head ace Stafford and his Silicone Engineering team were hoping to finish with a flourish in the Kent countryside, having taken great strides throughout the campaign.

Stafford again entered his stock machine in the Supersport EVO class to battle with some of the best riders in the country. Free practice saw him set the 12th fastest time and get a good wet set-up early in the session. Saturday’s conditions were slightly better, but track conditions were far from perfect and Stafford had to settle for 20th on the grid (tenth EVO bike).

He started the ten-lap sprint event well and was moving through the field nicely before a brake issue sent him into the gravel at more than 100mph at Westfield, ending his race.

Sunday’s 18-lap saw Stafford starting in 26th. Again, he worked through the pack to 18th place until he entered pit lane to retire on lap seven with brake issues.

Despite the last two meetings of the season ending in disappointment, this has been a great year for the youngster.

Stafford’s highlights saw him grab two top steps of the podium to prove his potential – but he now anxiously awaits the team’s decision and options for the 2016 season.

Stafford’s dad Andy said: “Ben and the family would like to say a massive thank you to the Silicone team and all of the loyal family and personal sponsors for the opportunity and the great support in the 2015 campaign.

“Also a big thank you to Adrian Smith for the photos and the support from the local papers.”

Teen talent Stafford would like to appeal to sponsors – new and old – for help in the forthcoming 2016 season. Anyone interested should contact either Ben or Andy on 01406 425450.
