Boundary B turn the table upside down

Rock-bottom Boundary B pulled off one of the shocks of the Spalding and District Snooker League Division One season so far by stunning leaders Holbeach A 4-2.

The Deepings side, who had only won three of their 15 games prior to the clash with the table-toppers, had frame wins from Daniel Smith (O14), Martyn McGhee (scr) and Steve Smith (R7) to thank for their victory.

Smith’s success was key, as he saw off Neal Jackson (O21) 70-37 in the all-important final frame.

Although Holbeach stay top, that result allowed Bourne SC A to reignite their title charge by beating Tulips A 4-2.

Frame triumphs from Carl Gibson (O21), Michael Byrne (R14) and Oliver Player (O28) got the job done for the Bourne boys, who are now just one point behind the leaders.

Fourth-placed Pyramid A are also just three points behind the leaders after they romped to a 5-1 home victory over Consti B.

A narrow black-ball victory from Dean Cole (R7) got the Bourne side on their way in the opening frame.

However, fifth-placed Tulips B failed to take advantage of the leaders’ loss as they went down 4-2 at home to Holbeach D.

In a game that saw Mark Woodberry (O55), Mark Wilkinson (O14), Ben Harding (O7) and Paul Daw (O21) make breaks of 31, 27, 22 and 20 respectively, Ben Harding (O7) sealed the victory for Holbeach in frame three.

Elsewhere, Holbeach C eased to a 5-1 triumph over Boundary A. Mark Gregory’s (O21) 27 break helped see Holbeach home.

There was also a welcome win for Consti F, who dispatched Pyramid B 4-2 despite a 22 break from the in-form Spencer Dawkins (O49).

In Division Two, Services C re-took the lead with an imposing 6-0 victory at Long Sutton B.

A 21 break from Thomas Horspool (O35) was in vain for Sutton, with Geoff Hemsil (R21), Mark Spiller (O7), Geoff Hemsil (R21), Nigel Cherry (O21) and Kevin Fitter (O21) all on winning form.

Previous leaders Boundary C came a cropper at Pyramid D, losing 4-2 to fall a place into second.

Denis Pearson’s (scr) breaks of 32 and 21 helped him clinch the game in the penultimate frame, while Marcus Hamilton (O28) rounded off his frame triumph with a 22 clearance.

Also going great guns in third place are Donington A, who whitewashed Consti G 6-0 to move within striking distance of the top two.

The best break in the second tier came from Stuart Atkin (O42), who inspired basement side Long Sutton C to a 4-2 win at fellow strugglers Donington B.

Atkin sank a 48 break, while team-mate Keith Wells (O35) added a 26 to steer Sutton off the foot, with Donington taking their place.

In Division Three, Consti I saw their title chances take a hit as they went down 5-1 at home to Bourne SC B.
Mark Lynch’s (O14) cool 32 clearance was the highlight for the Bourne side, while Pete Hodgson-Kerry (O28) added a 24 break.

Third-placed Services B, who are ten points behind second-placed Consti and leaders Crowland C, picked up a 4-2 success at Pyramid E as Jeff Collins (R14) sank a 20 break.

Consti C are also in the top five after they picked up a 4-2 win at Gosberton B.

In perhaps the closest clash of the week, Stuart Gravil’s (O14) 57-56 final frame triumph over Nigel Goodwin (R21) gave Consti the tightest of victories.

It wasn’t quite as tight in the all-Consti clash between the D and J sides.

That’s because Consti D reeled off a 5-1 win.
