Lewis Thorogood is pleased with Pinchbeck United’s progress ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Newark (3pm).
The Knights are in the rare position of being on a two-game unbeaten run ahead of the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field showdown against the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North new boys.
Having ended their long winless run by beating Selston, they picked up a draw at Holbeach United last weekend – leaving boss Thorogood in a positive mood.
He is, however, wary of the threat that Newark – who are two points and one point above the 11th-placed Knights – will provide.
“I think to have five points on the board, be 11th in the table and be on a two-game unbeaten run shows improvement,” said Thorogood. “It’s small steps, but we’re setting about ending these club hoodoos and are building something positive.
“We’re not getting carried away, but things are going OK at the moment and we’re not a million miles away from where we want to be.
“As for Newark, they are a new side from the Flowserve outfit I was more familiar with. I notice they’ve just signed Kern Miller, who I know well as a player. He’ll be a leader at the back and keep them organised.
“I’m expecting a fast-paced and physical game and I’m expecting them to be strong. But it’s another game we can look to get something from and we’ve got that carrot of going three games unbeaten.”
Pinchbeck welcome back Jake Knight to the fold after injury.
