Boss Cole backs relentless Holbeach United Sunday to shine in “massive” county clash

Co-boss Tim Cole has told his Holbeach United Sunday charges to concentrate on themselves ahead of their huge Lincs FA Sunday Cup clash this weekend.

The Tigers play host to Lincoln League side Scothern United at Carter’s Park (10.30am) in what promises to be a quality quarter-final.

A host of top South Holland talent will be in the Holbeach side – and Cole wants to see a repeat of the 7-0 win at Metheringham in the last round.

He said: “We’ve heard that they work hard as a unit and are tough to break down. However, as with the other games in the competition, the most important thing on the day is that we concentrate on ourselves and put in the performance we all know we are capable of.

“In the previous round we were straight out of the blocks from kick off and worked hard for each other all over the pitch – and that shone through with the result. Touch wood, we should have a fully fit squad to choose from. However (co-boss) Josh Ford and I are always a bit nervous between 3pm and 5pm on a Saturday afternoon.

“This is another massive game for us in the competition. We just have to make sure we turn up and perform on the day.”

So far this season Holbeach have won all 13 of their games in all competitions, scoring 117 and shipping 11.

Their dominance has attracted negativity from their rivals, but Cole isn’t taking any notice of that.

“So far this season we have a 100 per cent winning record – which is something we are really proud of,” he added. “We do have the odd moan and groan from other teams – but as we have always said, we are just a bunch of mates that enjoy playing and having a beer together.

“We would also like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support so far this season, the club, bar and fans and hope as many of you as possible are able to come and cheer us on.”

Cole added that he and the players would like to pass on their condolences and best wishes to the family of the late Viv Ball,  who sadly passed away over the festive period.

He added: “Viv was a fantastic man and loved the club. He was always there to chat to me and the players after the games.”

After Sunday’s game Tigers Social Club is hosting a disco and karaoke from 4pm. All are welcome.
