Booking in for the summer

Spalding Libarary has been a blaze of activity this summer, including its free Thursday activities.

Every day during the summer holiday it’s been putting on activities as part of the Story Garden Summer Reading Challenge.

Last Thursday’s included making mini-gardens and painting pebbles.

Sessions are 10am to 2pm with today’s Bug Week when children make hand puppets, and next week’s (August 28) Bird Week with creating perching parrots and birds’ nests among the attractions.
Finally, on Saturday, September 20, from 10am to noon there’s a Celebration Party to mark the end of the reading challenge.

The initiative encourages young people to read books during the summer.

Eight-year-old Lexi Crisp, of Moulton Chapel, is one of the first to complete the challenge having read six books.

“It’s been really good,” she said. “I liked the first book about woodland animals the most.”

Library manager Amanda Reynolds said: “It’s been going really well so far and we’ve had good numbers at all the sessions.”

Ayo Lowal (10) and Ayobami Lowal (9) with cousin Daniel Adeyemi.
Elliott (3), Henry (10), Edith (9) and Alistair Parnell (1).
