Blooming success for Holbeach gardeners

Green-fingered residents of Holbeach pitted their skills to take part in a contest.

Run by Holbeach in Bloom in conjunction with the Spalding Voice, the competition was open to people living in the town and surrounding villages.

Entrants submitted pictures of their gardens, either prints or emails, to be considered for judging.

The closing date was scheduled for the end of June and any outside space was considered.

Judges Terry and Jill Harrington volunteered to visit entrants to make a selection.

“We will be giving the people who entered a £10 voucher for all their hard work.

“The standard of entries was very high,” said Graham Rudkin, chairman of the Holbeach in Bloom committee.

The top prize went to Mr and Mrs Gillat, of Hazelwood Lane, Fleet and they received £50 as first prize.

The second prize of £30 went to Jackie Forrest of Foxes Low Road, Holbeach.

The third prize of £20 went to Mr Baldwin, of The Bungalow, Majors Farm, Sluice Road, Holbeach.

It was the second year the competition had been run.

The results of East Midlands in Bloom are due to be revealed early next month and it is hoped that Holbeach will achieve a gold award.
