A blind date at the old Geest Social Club has led to 60 years of marriage.
Peter and Ann Greeves celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary last Thursday (February 12) at their home in Pilgrim Way, Spalding, on what was also Peter’s 81st birthday.
They were set-up by mutual friend Marian Hardy (nee Budd) and have been together ever since.
“Every night Peter used to walk from Spalding to see me in Pinchbeck, unless someone took pity on him and gave him a lift,” said 77-year-old Ann. “We liked each other straight away. He was young with curly hair.”
“She was a bit of alright,” said Peter, who worked in the building trade before working as a security guard at British Sugar in Spalding which was demolished 30 years ago to the day on Saturday (February 21).
It was at the British Sugar Social Club the pair had their reception after being married at St Mary’s Church in Pinchbeck.
Ann worked at Geest before spending 22 years working at the Munro Medical Centre.
They have two daughters, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren who joined them for a family party at the weekend.
When asked what the secret to a long marriage, Peter says laughing: “To do what your wife tells you.”
“Well you’d better start doing that then,” laughs Ann. “We just like each other and are there for each other.
“We love holidays and we’ve had some good holidays together.
“We just enjoy each others company and enjoy listening to music together.”
