A banned driver who gave a false name when he was stopped by police has been jailed at Lincoln Crown Court.
Nathan Lake attracted the attention of officers in Holbeach because of the state of his vehicle.
Andrew Scott, prosecuting, said that Lake claimed to be his step brother Adam Reaney and was given a form to produce his documents at a police station before being allowed to continue on his way.
But as Lake made off a PCSO recognised him as a banned driver and realised he had given a false name.
Police later tracked down Lake but he claimed in interview that he had never driven the vehicle involved.
But in court Lake (25), of Baulkins Drive, Sutton St James, admitted a charge of perverting the course of justice as a result of the incident in September 2013. He was jailed for 12 weeks.
Judge Michael Heath told him “You were driving when you should not have been. You might well have got away with it had not the PCSO spotted you as the driver.
“People who plead guilty or are found guilty of perverting the coursed of justice go to prison unless there are exceptional circumstances.
“There are none here and you will go to prison.”
Nicola De Vas, defending, said Lake lived in a remote rural area with no regular public transport and found his driving ban “frustrating”.
Mrs De Vas urged that he be given a suspended jail sentence saying he had a full-time job and also helped care for his mother.
Adam Reaney (32), of Bridge Road, Long Sutton, denied a charge of perverting the course of justice and was cleared after the prosecution offered no evidence against him.
