Baker blooms with a match-winning treble

Long Sutton Men 1s 5
St Ives 4
An East Men’s Division One North goal feast went in favour of Long Sutton by the odd goal in nine.
Nick Ellis converted the first and a quick double from Josh Baker made it 3-0 in rapid time. However, the hosts then took their foot off the gas and St Ives slowly got back.
A goal line save from Baker prevented a change in the scoreline but the visitors were not to be denied and had pulled the score back to 3-2 by half-time.
Excellent attacking play by man of the match Mckenzie East and Brad Sargeant on the flanks brought much success and Baker struck from a penalty corner to complete his hat-trick.
An excellent, mazy run from East found Baker, who cut inside and played across for Sargeant to net into an open goal to restore the three-goal lead.
Back came St Ives with two more of their own to set up a frantic finale.
The second team went down 5-2 at City of Peterborough Fifths in Three North West, while the thirds were beaten 2-0 at home by Bourne Deeping Thirds in Division Five North West.

Long Sutton Ladies’ 1s 7
Pelicans 2 0
Sutton romped to a 7-0 victory over their near-neighbours in East Women’s League Division Three North West. Hannah Baker opened the scoring and Amelia Norey (2) and Lisa Baker quickly made it 4-0. Amber Jones completed a five-star first-half performance with a determined effort to score at the third attempt from a short corner.
Baker repeated her
first-half effort to resume the scoring after the break and completed her hat-trick with a reverse strike from a tight angle to complete the scoring.

Long Sutton Ladies’ 2s 2
St Neots 3s 0
Buoyed by the previous week’s win against local rivals Wisbech, Sutton took the game to St Neots from the off, attacking in numbers to pin their visitors into their own half.
The only surprise was that it took 17 minutes before Sutton found their way to goal when a melee in the St Neots D led to Kate Tillbrook superbly stabbing home.
In a mirror image of the first half they dominated again after the interval but again were not able to add to their tally until the 17th minute.
A super ball to the baseline found Alison Whittaker and she played the ball back for Tillbrook to double the advantage.
The player of the match award could have gone to anyone, with Katie Whittaker receiving a number of votes, but the accolade went to Lexi Clarke, who had a super game in her new position.
