Awards see caring staff celebrated

Some of the South Holland’s most caring people were recognised at the Lincolnshire Care Awards last week.

Clayton Hosier from Brun Lea Care Home in Spalding took home the Residential Care Award.
Ana Peixoto from Capricorn Cottage, Fleet, was highly commended in the Residential Care category and Mandy Secker, from Holbeach and East Elloe Hospital Trust, was highly commended in the Front Line Leader category.
The awards, which were organised by Lincolnshire Care Association (LinCA), took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln, and were hosted by Melvyn Prior, a former presenter on BBC Radio Lincolnshire.
Glen Garrod, from Lincolnshire County Council, was awarded the LinCA Chair Award for his service to the sector as this marks his final year before retirement.
Mandy was nominated by Holbeach Hospital’s business support manager Rebecca Atkinson.
“Mandy is a very special person and a real asset to Holbeach Hospital,” Rebecca said. “She has a real passion for care.
“Our Care Champion role was created for Mandy due to her skills and expertise in providing the very best care at the end of patients lives and the excellent relationships she demonstrates with families.
“She also plays a key role within our organisation in promoting and training staff.
“Mandy created our Tree of Life, which stands in reception, and every patient or resident who has passed away is remembered as a leaf on the tree and in a memorial book.
“Families find this a great comfort. We are very proud of her achievement and she fully deserves the award.”
Coun Wendy Bowkett, executive county councillor for adult care and public health said: “The Lincolnshire Care Awards celebrate the tremendous support provided by carers and their teams in the community, residential care, nursing and adult care.
“Award winners are fine examples of so many caring staff in Lincolnshire who show real dedication and passion in their work to ensure that people throughout the country are given the care they need and deserve.”
