Australian historian to give talk on Donington explorer

Dr Gillian Dooley, (Honorary Senior Research Fellow, English, Special Collections Librarian, Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia) will give her latest talk on Donington’s illustrious explorer and navigator entitled Matthew Flinders: the Man behind the Map of Australia.

Dr Dooley is visiting the UK as she has been invited to give her latest talk as part of the British Maritime History series at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London.

This year is an important anniversary with regards to Matthew Flinders as it’s the bicentenary of his death and the publication of his magnum opus in 1814.

His achievements are being commemorated not just here in Donington but around the world and Dr Dooley’s talk will provide us with a unique insight into this remarkable man.

The Thomas Cowley High School has kindly offered to host this talk by Dr Dooley in the Matthew Flinders Hall.

The event is free and open to the public and the talk will start at 7pm, doors open at 6.30pm. Refreshments will be available during the evening.
