Auction aims to warm church

An auction is to be held to keep a ‘Warm Space’ church exactly that.

St Matthew’s Church in Sutton Bridge has provided a haven during the winter months and the cost of living crisis.

It came at a cost though, with the heating bills topping £1,000.

Those behind the Warm Space want to give something back and put on a summer party, so are hosting the auction on Friday, June 6.

“The church has been letting us use the building for nothing,” said Jackie Hutchinson. “We feed, do crafts, play games, and entertain about 30 to 40 people each month.

“Our summer party needs two bounce castles and food for the barbecue, oh plus sunshine, it’s a great way to finish warm space for the summer and gives the many children a chance to let off steam whilst the adults enjoy a chat over a drink.”

On Friday, June 6, members of the public are invited to drop items off to be sold at St Matthew’s from 9am to 10.30am.

There will then be opportunity to view the lots from 4pm with the auction itself starting at 6pm.

Tea and coffee will be on sale at all times and hot food available from 4pm to 6pm.

To raise funds a small commission will be taken from the buyer and seller of each item.
