It’s another first for Pinchbeck United on Saturday as they contest their maiden ChromaSport UCL Knockout Cup clash.
Premier Division side St Andrews are the visitors to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday (3pm), with Pinchbeck assistant boss Allan Ross admitting that a good cup run would help put his side on the footballing map.
The Knights have won two, drawn three and lost just one of their UCL Division One games so far, but Ross reckons that Saturday’s clash will give them a clearer indication of where they are as a team.
He said: “Obviously it’s Premier Division opposition – and we don’t know too much about them if I’m honest.
“It’s another game where we’ll concentrate on what we’re good at we’ll go with the best preparation possible.
“We’ll travel with a stronger squad as we’ve got Andrew Tidswell, Tyler Wright and Ollie Maltby all back in the frame.
“The good thing about this game is that we’ve got absolutely nothing to lose. Nobody is expecting us to win against them.
“But it’d be nice to have a little cup run, which would be good revenue and good to get us on the map a bit more.
“When you play the higher ranked opposition, it’s often a good way of gauging where you are as a team.”
St Andrews will arrive at the Sir Halley with a new manager in the dugout after former Holbeach United and Spalding United striker Jamie Clarke resigned as boss last week.
He took to Twitter to say: “Decided to step down as manager of St Andrews. It’s been a massive learning curve. But I’m not ready for management just yet. The club has potential, but I’ve found dealing with it difficult.
“I’ve not failed, it’s just not the right time for me. I hold my head high and give it everything and planned a lot.”
