Arrests on night of 25 stop and searches in police clampdown on Spalding burglaries

Spalding Police’s clampdown on burglaries in the town has reaped rewards – including two further arrests on Tuesday night.

Police carried out 25 stop/searches around the town as part of Operation Bonus.

And news of the results of comes with an apology from Spalding’s community policing inspector to innocent people who were put out by his officers’ efforts.

Insp Jim Tyner said: “Inevitably, many of the people that we stop and search are law-abiding members of the community going about their lawful business and I am sorry for any inconvenience caused to them.

“However, stop and search is an important weapon in our fight against crime.”

During Tuesday’s operation, a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and another man was arrested for being in possession of suspected heroin.

Speaking on Wednesday, Insp Tyner added: “There were no further burglaries reported last night. This shows the benefits of effective use of our stop and search powers.”

Two other arrests in Spalding which came about as a result of stop and search powers:
August 8: 27-year-old man arrested and convicted of a burglary in Pinchbeck Road
August 26: 30-year-old man arrested for burglary in Stonegate and is currently on police bail
