Allowing development of an agricultural field with 80 homes would be a “betrayal” of nearby residents, it has been said.
Residents opposed to the proposals for land next to York Gardens, Gosberton, spoke at a parish council meeting on Monday.(Dec 12)
Among them was the Rev Steve Weatherly-Barton, of nearby Welby Drive, who has submitted an objection directly to South Holland District Council.
It says: “I know from many comments I have received that many of my neighbours are alarmed and distressed by this proposed development.
“I think they have every right to feel this way. They are not indulging in selfish ‘nimbyism’, but simply concerned that such misplaced overdevelopment will have a detrimental effect on their life and community.”
He added: “In a village like Gosberton it is a gross and misplaced overdevelopment. It would place enormous pressure on local schools and medical services.
“It would be a betrayal of all the residents surrounding this site who have chosen to live in – and in many cases to retire to – a home with an open and rural outlook, and were given no warning of such a development when they purchased their homes.”
Neighbour Harold Lynch, of Welby Drive, told The Voice: “We keep using up agricultural land and green belt when we should be looking at redeveloping existing dilapidated areas.”
As previously reported, D N and N Casswell and Mrs F Rozier have jointly applied for outline planning permission to establish the principle of developing the site.
