All to play for as Welland Yacht Club series nears completion

With only two races to go in of Welland Yacht Club’s Pursuit Series, any of a number of people could take overall honours – so it’s still all to play for.

Last Sunday (May 22) saw rounds three and four.

This year, for the first time, helms are also provided with a personal handicap, meaning that if the handicapper has the numbers correct all boats will be on the same bit of water when the one hour race time is completed.
Although that didn’t quite happen it has provided some very close racing with all four races being won by different helms.

With an impressive 12 boats competing, Sunday’s first race was won by Andy Prior who successfully navigated his way through the whole fleet to take first.
Gail Follington gave him a close race finishing yards behind, with Paul Wilson taking a very credible third place.

With the field dropped to ten, the second race provided some really close racing.

With 15 minutes to spare, Brian Cobb in the Europe managed to pull ahead of Gail and Jack Follington and although Paul Burton in his Phantom was catching rapidly he could only overtake Gail and not Cobb, securing second place.
