All-time record catch for Spalding angler

Spalding Fishing Club’s new season hailed the first matches on the Vernatts Drain for many years.

Many bream had been spotted on Surfleet section and hopes were high.

The first match on Wednesday evening saw Des Dalton on Peg One way out in front with a catch of 25lb 8oz consisting of four bream and some smaller silvers.

Second from Peg 3 was Tom Decamps with 8lb 12oz including one bream and bits.

Sunday’s match, at the same venue, saw an all-time record catch for a Spalding Club match, in fact for any Spalding match.

Way out in front from peg 2 was Matt Arnold with a colossal 113lb 13oz comprising of 16 bream thus averaging 7lb apiece although his biggest fish was in excess of 8lbs.

Second was Dalton with 20lb 5oz edging out Gary Hardy’s 19lb 11oz. All participants caught bream.
