All aboard the Spalding water taxi for 2018

It’s that time of the year again – the Spalding Water Taxi sets sail for the 2018 season on Good Friday (March 29).

The link between the town centre and Springfields has its first journey at 11am tomorrow and it will continue every day throughout the summer until the end of September.

Last year the not-for-profit organisation ferried over 10,000 people along the River Welland and the Coronation Channel.

Its 10 staff are now ready for its 13th year of running.

“The Spalding Water Taxi is one of the landmarks of the town,” said its operations manager Anthony Grunwell. “We can’t wait to get back on the water to start the new season.

“Taxis will be every 40 minutes at either end throughout the summer.

“We’re very resilient, we have covers if needed, and the only time we’ve had to cancel was when the weeds were too thick on the river.

“Throughout the trip our qualified pilots are able to pass on their wealth of knowledge and make it a lovely journey.”

The water taxi was set up to provide an easy link between Spalding’s town centre and the Springfields shopping centre. It continues to prove popular with residents and visitors alike.

Anthony continued: “I’d urge anybody to take a trip on the water.

“We take this town for granted when we’re walking or driving. I’d recommend they see Spalding in a different light through its waterways. I love being able to take people on this route.”

Trips will begin at 10am and 11am on Sundays and bank holidays. The last boats leave at 5pm. Tickets cost £7 return or £3.50 for a single ticket.
