All aboard for the water taxi return

It’s back! On Saturday, April 5 the Spalding Water Taxi will take to the river again.

After having to take a year out due to the low water levels of the River Welland last summer, the unique attraction is to return to the town’s waterways.
It’s launching in style with a day of celebrations and free sailings.
“It is with great excitement that we are able to announce that the Spalding Water Taxi will be open again this year,” a spokesman said. “This not for profit, award winning organisation will once again delight local residents and visitors to our town.
“It will open at 11am for both town and Springfields jetties leaving hourly until 5pm.
“Please come and support us on April 5, and take advantage of free sailings throughout the day.”
Throughout the season the boats will continue to be hourly from both jetties between 11am and 5pm on Saturdays.
One boat will also be running on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. It will start at 11am in Spalding Town leaving there at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm and from Springfields in the hours in between.
The price for a single ticket is ÂŁ4 and ÂŁ12 for a family.
Once again you’ll be able to hire out a boat to drive yourself.
The cost will be ÂŁ85 for two hours, ÂŁ120 for four hours and ÂŁ180 for a full day. It can also be privately chartered for ÂŁ85 an hour.
This year the Spalding Water Taxi is going cashless. You can though use cash to purchase vouchers from the South Holland Centre in Spalding.
The spokesman continued: “A huge thank you goes to our current sponsors who will be there on the day to meet you; Springfields, Lightspeed Broadband and Riverside Training Agency.
“Also special thanks to our partner companies; South Holland District Council and The Broadgate Group who together set up the water taxi 18 years ago.”
Nick Bossley, of The Broadgate Group, said: “The Spalding Water Taxi has become an important part of the town’s leisure services and culture and we are proud and pleased to partner with SHDC to provide this experience.
“We are looking forward to its reintroduction this year and would encourage everyone to both enjoy and support what is a wonderful activity and experience.”
Coun Gary Taylor added: “Spalding is very fortunate to have a wonderful river running through its centre.
“I very much welcome the return of the Spalding Water Taxi.
“This is a great opportunity for local and visitors to relax and enjoy this unique experience.”
