Advice available to EU citizens in South Holland

South Holland residents unsure on where they stand with regards being able to live and work in Britain in the future can get free help from a group set up by Citizen’s Advice.

The EU Settlement Scheme has been set up by the UK Home Office to ensure that EU, EEA or Swiss citizens can easily apply for the right to continue living and working in the UK after June 30, 2021.

It’s being overseen in South Holland by Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire to help residents apply to settle here.

If you are an EU citizen, resident in the UK by December 31, 2020, you and your family members (including non-EU citizens) need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue to live, work and study in the UK beyond June 30, 2021.

Even if you have lived in the UK for many years or you have a permanent residence document, you still need to apply.

You do not need to apply if you have indefinite leave to remain or enter, or you are an Irish citizen, but you can if you want to.

The online application checks your identity and UK residence, and asks you to declare any criminal convictions. The deadline for applications is June 30, 2021.

A spokesman for the EU Settlement Scheme Support – Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire, said: “The aim of the project is provide practical help and support to vulnerable EU citizens applying for ‘settled’ or ‘pre-settled’ status under the new EU Settlement Scheme.

“The project is funded by the Home Office, which has put £9m of grant funding in place for organisations, such as ourselves, in order to reach and support vulnerable and at-risk people.

“It is free to apply. The scheme is open and we can help people to apply now if they are eligible.”

Up to date information from the group is being posted on the Facebook page EU Settlement Scheme Support – Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire.
