The May Bank holiday weekend means one thing in South Holland – church flower festivals. Here’s a guide to some of those taking place.
* Long Sutton (May 2-6). The only town in South Holland now that takes part in East Midlands In Bloom, and the Flower Festival at St Mary’s Church this year has the theme ‘Today’s the Day. Nearly 100 volunteers have got involved this year with funds raised going towards the appeal for urgent repairs of the church spire.
* Surfleet (until May 5). ‘A Great Day Out’ is the theme at St Laurence.
* West Pinchbeck (until May 5). ‘A Festival of Flowers’ is promised at St Bartholomew’s. It’s open 10am to 4pm with refreshments, books and stalls available.
* Pinchbeck (May 1-5). St Mary’s Church will be ‘Saying it with Flowers and Memories’. It will include a performance Tappers, Tunes and Tambourines at 7pm on Saturday, May 3.
* Gosberton (May 1-5). The Methodist Church is hosting its festival ‘Sing Out Loud’ which includes Songs of Praise on Sunday at 4.30pm.
* Moulton Chapel: There are a few goings on in the village including the Tuliptime Village Festival from 1pm and parade which starts at 3pm on Sunday,
Moulton Chapel Methodist Church has ‘All the Fun of the Pantomimes’ from May 1-5.
Over the same period St James’ Church will be hosting a Cottage Garden.
* Moulton: All Saints’ Church festival is entitled ‘The World Of Music’ and runs from May 2-5. Tea, coffee, cakes and a raffle are all available.
* Donington (May 2-11). St Mary and the Holy Rood is going back to the 1960s, for its flower festival. It is open 10am to 4pm.
* Weston Hills (May 3-5) ‘Wedding Anniversaries’ is the theme at St John the Evangelist. Open from 10am to 4pm.
* Fleet (May 3-5). The Flower and Craft Festival is at St Mary Magdalene.
* Gedney Hill (May 3-5).Holy Trinity is hailing ‘Victory’, at its festival which has been created in association with the Elloe Fen group.
* Holbeach (May 4-5). Holbeach Baptist Church is recognising ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, for this year’s festival, which also includes a special Songs of Praise at 10.30am on the Sunday.
