Three terrific wins for Spalding Netball Club’s teams in Boston League

Spalding Netball Club’s two teams returned from their half-term break with a pair of impressive results.

In Division Two of the Boston Netball League, Tulips Blue enjoyed a superb 35-16 win over Flinders Flyers, while Tulips Yellow picked up an impressive 20-16 success over Flexi-Birds.

Starting with the Blue team, they held a narrow 7-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

But the second quarter saw the defensive pressure of Amy Bramma and Ellie-Mae Stokes come to the fore, as they worked tirelessly in the circle with great communication. That helped the Spalding girls move into 18-7 half-time lead.

During the second half of the game the team really found their flow and played with great confidence.

Special mention goes to Tilly Garfoot, who slotted into the Blues’ mid-court seamlessly and enjoyed some lovely link-up play with Mel Johnson and Hayley Stevens.

Lucy Boyce and Millie Weller were also as reliable as ever putting up the shots.

Overall it was a great team performance from all seven players on the court, but Stevens claimed the players’ player prize and Lucy Bronze bagged the umpire’s player award.

Meanwhile, Tulips Yellow continue their fine winning streak.

The opening two quarters saw a fast-paced period where the teams were trading goal for goal.

A few turnovers lead to the Flexi-birds having a goal advantage at one point, but by the end of the second quarter it was all tied up at 10-10.

The Tulips went into the third quarter determined to beat their opposition.

And, sure enough, some great shooting and intercepts at opposing ends saw them gain a six-goal lead.

The final quarter saw the Spalding girls keep their high tempo and, although Flexi-Birds fought back, the Yellows retained their lead due to some great defensive work and they eventually finished with a four-goal advantage.

This time it was Isabella Pastore who claimed the players’ player of the match award, while Emma Agar landed the umpires’ player prize.

  • Tulips Yellow battled to a gutsy win over Boston Boltz Sky in Division Two of the Boston Netball League as they signed off for half-term.

Spurred on by an electric atmosphere at Boston’s Peter Paine Sports Centre, Yellow took to the court in a determined mood to repeat their win over Boltz Sky last October.

But, despite Tulips’ high expectations, the first quarter saw a strong start from their opponents as they gained a lead of 4-2.

However, some great tips from their defence meant that Yellow were able to keep the deficit to a minimum.

Tulips soon found their feet in the second and third quarters, scoring six goals in each, with some steady passes in the centre third which led to a spree of great goals.

Going into the final quarter with a three-goal lead, Tulips were faced by a fourth quarter rally from Boltz Sky who led 13-12 with little time left on the clock.

Tulips stayed strong and, with some great long shots in the last few minutes, managed a dramatic 15-13 win.

Tilly Garfoot received the players’ player of the match vote, while Molly Savage was awarded umpires’ player of the match.

The win was also notable for the debut of Isabella Pastore in the Tulips Yellow team, with the hope of her joining the club as part of a new Tulips’ team for the summer season.
