South Holland properties are set to start receiving their waste wheelie bins from next week.
The new waste collection system is due to start in November with one of the biggest changes seeing wheelie bins provided.
Every eligible property will receive a black-lidded bin for general waste, a blue-lidded bin for mixed dry recycling, a purple-lidded bin for paper and card recycling and a food waste caddy pack, including a kitchen caddy, outdoor caddy and starter liners.
South Holland District Council has previously indicated it hopes to go live with the new service from November 9. Current waste collections will continue until then.
Under the new service food waste will be collected every week, general waste (black bin) will be collected on every two weeks and mixed dry recycling (blue-lidded) and paper and card (purple-lidded) recycling will each be collected monthly on alternate fortnights.
The district council says every household will receive a ‘welcome pack’ before the service goes live.
A district council spokesman said: “Deliveries will take place well in advance of the new collections starting to ensure every household receives their bins and caddies before the service changes are introduced.
“Each delivery will include a simple tag explaining that the bins should be placed in their permanent storage location and not used until the new service begins.
“Delivery vehicles will be working across South Holland over the coming weeks. Please be aware that deliveries may take place at any time during the day.
“The delivery teams will place bins within the boundary/curtilage of your property where it is safe and practical to do so. There is no need for you to be at home when your bins are delivered.
“Because of the large number of households receiving new bins and caddies, some neighbouring properties may receive their bins before others.
“We kindly ask residents to be patient while deliveries are completed across the district. Due to individual requirements for Houses of Multiple Occupation and flats, these properties will have their deliveries made at the end of the delivery timetable.
“The new service will make it easier for residents to recycle more materials from home while helping South Holland improve recycling rates, reduce the amount of waste requiring disposal and meet new national recycling requirements.”
Coun Jim Astill, the district council’s portfolio holder for corporate and environmental services, said: “The delivery of our new waste and recycling bins is an important step towards launching South Holland’s new collection service later this year.
“The new system will make it easier for residents to recycle more materials, including food waste, and will help us meet future recycling requirements.
“As the deliveries begin, I would ask residents to be patient as teams work their way across the district and to remember that the new bins should not be used until the new service officially starts. Full guidance and collection information will be provided in advance.”
