Good signs at Spalding preschool

A Spalding preschool has become the first in South Holland to receive ‘Makaton Friendly‘ accreditation.

The sign-language award was given to BeBright Preschool.

Laura Spillett from BeBright said: “Since opening in September 2018, we have ensured our staff are trained to use Makaton to support children’s communication.

“We are further enhancing this in February when we are hosting a stage 1 Makaton training course.

“Both Stephanie and Laura, the preschool owners, wanted to implement using Makaton with their inclusive preschool. They feel that Makaton supports the youngest children who are acquiring language, children with additional needs who are not able to communicate verbally and children who are new to learning English.”

At a recent Christmas singing event with parents, the children signed alongside singing Christmas songs. A grandparent told staff it was “wonderful” to see all children being able to join in.
