Cat charity’s food and toy request

A charity that helps rescue and look after cats is appealing for donations of food and toys for 2020.

The Spalding and District Cat Protection League has been running for 30 years and it’s just had a busy festive period.

The group has around 20 volunteers who not only fundraise for their numerous activities, but also rake care of cats and look to rescue them, recuperate them and find them suitable new homes.

It was set up by local lady Sandra Gelsthorpe who said: “It’s been a long while. I started around the time my daughter and she’s 31 next June.”

Over Christmas Sandra had to look after a litter of five kittens that were abandoned when poorly.

Two other cats were abandoned, one with a cleft lip.

She said of the current situation: “We’re desperate for food and new toys for the cats, anything like that.

“We even like toys or food so that we can use it for out tombola stall or raffles when we’re out fundraising.

“It’s not just about looking after and rescuing cats, we also work with organisations to neuter cats for people on benefits who might otherwise not be able to afford that.”

The Voice is acting as a drop-off point if you have any cat food or toys you wish to donate.

You can leave them with us at our Goodison Road offices between the hours of 9am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
