A Spalding woman has celebrated her 100th birthday – and puts it down to a hearty breakfast.
Joan Stanhope was born on September 21, 1919 and until two years ago, lived at Spring Gardens in the town and spent her working career at Johnson Hospital.
She celebrated her birthday at her relatively new home of St John’s Care Home in Spalding.
Joan was married for 39 years and has three children: Sidney, Margaret and Alan.
Joan has eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
She has always been active, with crochet, knitting and clubs among her interests.
She said her secret to making it to 100 is down to diet: “Good food and dripping on toast for breakfast,” she said.
Joan has always lived by a caring motto, too. “Do unto others what you would wish for yourself.”
