Drove drunk to home five minutes away

A Spalding man has been banned from driving after he made the ‘stupid decision’ to drive home from the pub when he only lived a five minutes walk away.

Paul Savage, 51, of Chesboule Lane, Gosberton Risegate, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

The court was told he provided a reading of 48 microgrammes of alcohol in is system, the legal limit being 35.

Mitigating, Beris Brickles said Savage lived in a rural area and had lost his employment because of his mandatory driving ban.

He said he had gone to the pub and had ‘stupidly made the decision to drive home, as ‘he only lives five minutes away’.

He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £117 in costs and charges, and was banned from driving for a year, but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation scheme, which will reduce the period of the ban by 12 weeks.
