Spalding Golf Club’s second team are celebrating after winning their league.
The final game in the league was a rescheduled fixture between Belton Park and Blankney, with the away side needing to record a 6-0 win to deny Spalding the victory.
The result went Spalding’s way, meaning the trophy has come back to the Surfleet course and into the hands of Tigger Johnson and Trev Laud’s side.
- The President’s Putter competition was played amid sweltering heat – but that didn’t stop Trevor Horrocks (8 handicap) from winning with a score of 66.
He edged Louie Gooderson (18) into second place on countback, with Simon Horton (8) completing the top three on 68.
- Seniors’ section: The Seniors’ Extra Competition saw teams of three take on the course with just three clubs and a putter.
The winners were Jim Dobson, Bernard Herbert and Alan Pritchard on 80 points, with Steve Watson, Ron Rolfe and Terry Carter second on 77 points.
Peter Bingham, Stuart Waltham and Dave Bark were third.
- Ladies’ section: Anita Cross and Maureen Orwell emerged as winners of the Groom Cup.
Their score of level par in the 18-hole foursomes bogey competition was enough for victory ahead of Elaine Hancock and Jackie Bailey Scott (-2).
Sarah Gibson and Jenny Van Gemeren (-3) managed third place.
- The Spalding ladies were on top form and beat Greetham Valley 4-0 in their latest match at the Surfleet course.
The home team was captained by Beryl Clay with Gill Dewhurst, while the other members were Lizzie Cooke and Kay Green, Sue Dewar and Jenny Wilson, Maureen Orwell and Ingrid King.
