Easy victory for Kilby at Tydd Gote Angling Club on tough day for fishing

Things looked glum at the latest Tydd Gote Angling Club Sunday club match on the North Level at Main Road – but fish were caught.

With overcast skies and a threat of rain through the day, numbers were down but it didn’t put the fish off.

Andrew Kilby’s drawing arm struck again as he found himself on end peg 35, where he got off to a flying start with five big bream and a tench inside the first hour.

He later added another bream and a big skimmer with roach for 33lb 1oz and an easy win.

Steve Borrett had to wait an hour for the bream shoal to move, but then took two quick fish from peg 32 with some roach and skimmers for a level 8lb and second place.

Dennis Houghton had a lovely net of roach and small skimmers on in-form peg 25 for his 6lb 14oz and third place which could have been a lot more but for pike activity in the last hour.

He was very closely followed by Archie Greenwood’s 6lb 12oz of roach and tench from peg 34.

Result: Wednesday Open (Main Road) – 1st Sammy McSpadden 8lb 14oz; 2nd Don Green 8lb 6oz; 3rd Dave Simmonds 5lb 14oz.

Thursday evening club match (Black Dyke) – 1st Dan Abbott 2lb 2oz; 2nd Andrew Goodger 1lb 12oz; 3rd Andy Lawrence 1lb 4oz.

  • Gary Boxhall topped the standings at Holbeach and District Angling Club’s latest match at Cement Bridge.

With a bad weather forecast for rain, numbers were expected to be down from previous weeks – but 17 members still braved the wet weather.

With 6lb 5oz of silver fish and a couple of small carp to boost his overall weight from peg four, Boxhall was the clear winner.

Second was Tom Wilson with 4lb 6oz from peg 12, mostly took on the waggler.

In third position was Colin Neve with 3lb 9oz from peg 14.
