Kieran set for operation after fantastic community effort

A teenager is set for a potentially life-changing operation thanks to the support of the local community.

Cerebral palsy sufferer Kieran Evans (17) is now awaiting confirmation of an appointment this month that will cut the nerves that affect his movement and lessen the effects of the debilitating condition.

Alicia Evans (9) and Isabelle Evans (6) with face painter Donna Young from Kaleidoscope- face painting and body decoration.

Mum Melissa has helped raise a fantastic £13,000 so her son can have the operation at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

And a family fun day held at the Fisherman’s Arms on Saturday helped raise the final £2,000 after fantastic donations from the public and the likes of Spalding Round Table who offered to match half the funds, Welland Power, Spalding Lions and Pode Hole Bingo.

The fun day included a host of fun and games provided and supported throughout the community.

There was even some on the spot, and somewhat painful improvised fundraising with Kerren Hackney having his legs, arm pits and nipples waxed while land lord Alan Scott raised £174 by shaving his head.

Melissa said: “It was an incredible turn out for an incredible young man.

“There will never be enough words to express how thankful we are.”

She continued: “Some of you won’t really understand what this means to me or to Kieran, how things impact us or what we have been through, but it will change his life and for the better!

“It’s been a very rocky road up to this point and it’s about time Kieran should be happy and pain free.”
