New champion crowned as Tilly takes title in Spalding Golf Club ladies’ section

Tilly Garfoot was crowned club champion in Spalding Golf Club’s ladies’ section last Wednesday after two impressive rounds in extreme heat.

The Barbara Watson Salver, for those ladies with handicaps of 0 to 20, was played over 36 holes and was entered by 12 ladies – but only seven of those played all 36.

The winner, with two rounds of gross 79 totalling 158 was new champion Garfoot.

Mathilde Kedzlie with 85 and 76 (161) and Eden Inglis on 82 and 86 (168) completed the top three.

The Jean Farrow Plate, for handicaps 21 to 28, had eight entries and the winner – on count back – was Mags Filby with a net 78.

Lizzie Cooke (78) and Sue Matthews (79) were in second and third places respectively.

The Myers Shield, for handicaps 29 to 54, attracted eight entries.

The winner was Sally West on 76, ahead of Kay Green (78) and Mo Wallace (80) in second and third.

Both the Jean Farrow and the Myers were played in conjunction with the Double Trophy.

  • The Spalding A team travelled to Toft for a league match last week, losing 3-1.

Elaine Hancock and Elizabeth Holbrook won 3&2, Lesley Williams and Nicky Weller lost 2&1, Ruth Atkins and Jenny Van Gemeren lost 2&1 and Sue Dewar and Lizzie Cooke lost 6&4.

  • Spalding drew a friendly match with visitors Toft 2-2 at the Surfleet course last Monday.

Carole Holland and Sue Dewar won 7&6, Maureen Orwell and Maureen Norman lost 1 down, Sally West and Jane Darley won 4&3 and Ingrid

King and Elaine Harrison lost 3&2.
