Mixed fortunes for Knights and Tigers on first Saturday of pre-season action

Pre-season really kicked into gear for non-league sides at the weekend, with two of South Holland’s heavyweights getting their friendly fixtures under way.

Pinchbeck United enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Bourne Town at Knight Street on Friday night, while Holbeach United were handed a 2-0 home reverse against much-fancied Skegness Town the following day.

The Tigers, who picked up a win at FC Parson Drove last Tuesday night, were beaten by a first-half brace of goals from the prolific Will Britton at Carter’s Park on Saturday.

Skegness, now managed by ex-Boston Town chief Nathan Collins and his assistant former Spalding United supremo Chris Rawlinson, struck first blood when Britton raced clear to round the keeper and score.

The striker then finished off a fine move to grab his second following a squared pass from Josh Morrall.

Holbeach had a host of fresh faces on the pitch, including Jon Fairweather and the returning Jamie Stevens.

They are back in action at Blackstones  on Wednesday night and host Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties First Division champions Swaffham Town this Saturday (3pm).

Meanwhile, goals from Nick Jackson (65), Ollie Maltby (66) and Alex Beck (penalty 80) fired Pinchbeck to a comfortable win over Bourne at Knight Street.

The Knights next host Horncastle Town on Friday night (7pm).
